Mr Ernesto Ismail

Research Interests:

Nonlinear mechanics including material modelling,fluid-structure interaction, and damage modelling. Computational methods including the Finite Element Method, Discontinuous Galerkin Methods, and Meshless Methods. Nonlinear vibrations.

Ernesto has been affiliated with UCT since 2003. He completed his bachelors degree in 2006 and masters degree in 2009. While doing his masters he held the position of Assistant lecturer in the department teaching several courses throughout the undergraduate curriculum.

Ernesto is currently pursuing a PhD under Prof. Daya Reddy in the field of damage modelling, specifically shear banding.

Ernesto is currently affiliated with the Centre for Research in Computational and Applied Mechanics (CERECAM) and the Blast and Impact Survivability Unit (BISRU).

Beyond his academic work Ernesto is involved in the mountaineering and climbing community, and rock climbs and SCUBA dives regularly.

Published work:

Ernesto has attended and presented papers at several conferences relating to his work in meshless methods.
